CommuterCash Mobile App

MWCOG, Washington, DC metropolitan region. Launched region-wide January 2025.

CommuterCash is the commuter rewards app for the Washington, DC region's Commuter Connections program. A commuter logs a sustainable trip, the app verifies it, and points post to a balance the commuter can redeem in the app. Media Beef builds and operates the app and the platform behind it.

Trip logging is multimodal and GPS-verified: the app records the trip with location tracking the commuter starts, and stops automatically when the commuter arrives. Verification is commuter-initiated by design; there is no always-on background tracking. Manual logging covers the modes and days GPS does not.

The rewards side is immediate. Points post to a running balance with full transaction history, redemption happens inside the app, and achievement badges mark milestones, starting with a welcome bonus on signup. The same trip data powers program challenges: the app served as the primary trip-tracking vehicle for the region's goDMV Commuter Competition.
